Study Abroad: Travel for a Semester Abroad

If you’re a college student dying to travel the world, a study abroad program is a great way to get college credit for traveling! In a study abroad program you can learn a new language, meet new friends, expand your horizons living in a different culture, and have a life-changing experience. If you are considering a study abroad program, here are some things to know.

1. Some colleges offer scholarships and financial aid for students to take advantage of a study abroad program. Choosing a study abroad destination with a lower cost of living will make the trip more affordable overall.
2. Enrolling directly with a campus overseas can help you save significantly rather than dealing with your local college. Contact universities directly to see if this is an option.

   Study abroad programs can take you virtually anywhere. We tapped into Twitter to see where college students are getting ready to go. @z00here wants to go to France, @Ms_Diva87 is going to Costa Rica, @CarrieSmith03 is trying for Seville, Spain, @MS_ROCHii is planning to go to Switzerland, @SB_queen is planning to hit Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, and @reihime is off to Guatamala this spring.

4. Study abroad programs aren’t only for college students anymore. The National Geographic Traveler shared a three-day course to learn how to make gelato at Carpigiani Gelato University.
5. Keep in mind, if you’re enrolled in an online college, every semester could be a study abroad program. You could finish your art history assignment after strolling the Louvre in Paris, complete your English Literature paper after visiting William Shakespeare’s hometown, or do a quiz on international business from Shanghai. Imagine the possibilities.
