Larger universities that are known for psychology programs may offer more specialized programs like psychology and law, sports psychology, or behavioral medicine.

Doctoral psychology programs are necessary for clinical careers, some counseling positions and the majority of research or teaching positions. This level of education will allow the highest level of specialization and includes areas like neuroscience, clinical psychology, social personality, forensic psychology, learning processes and behavior and more. For individuals interested in working in hospitals, clinics or university settings pursuing this level of education will probably be necessary.
